JOB SUMMARY:

​

The Midwife in VFAI is an experienced midwifery practitioner with a tender heart who is responsible for the physical, mental, and emotional care of their patients during delivery. The Midwife provides prenatal and postnatal education and services, examines the patients during the course of the pregnancy, and assists them in creating birth plans. They also ensure the health and well-being of the newborn and mother during delivery and are in charge of all community-based sensitizations and activities related to reproductive health.

​

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

​

  • Must hold at least a Certificate in Midwifery but preferably a Diploma from a recognized institution;

  • Must have at least three (3) years working experience in a hospital or registered health center.

  • Must have basic training in HIV/ART, Malaria and T.B and Immunization management

  • Should be registered with Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council with a valid practicing license.

  • Must be available to work on a rotational shift as may be scheduled by the Health Unit In-charge.

  • Must be a caring, polite, outgoing and lovely person able to deal with all those who visit the Health Center.

  • Experience in community liaisons and sensitization an added advantage.

  • Must be a person of integrity with a multicultural outlook.

  • Should possess high levels of confidentiality.

MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Specifically, the position calls for the following major roles:

​

  • Antenatal Care.

  • Provide counseling and health education to mothers before and after screening.

  • Assess mothers’ and adolescent girls’ reproductive health needs and advise them accordingly including making of birth plans, nutrition etc.

  • Make immunizations to the mothers across the whole continuum as standardized by the Ministry of Health.

  • Provide antenatal care services at the health facility with the full package and/or at any other community points.

  • Provide information and linkage to elimination of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV.

  • Monitoring the health of pregnant women and their unborn babies.

  • Educating patients as well as their partners and family members on reproductive health, preparation for parenthood, and antenatal care.

  • Expose patients to pain management techniques to prepare them for labor.

  • Providing sound advice to patients regarding diets, exercises, and medications suitable for pregnancy.

  • Delivery.

  • Identify high risk pregnancies and organize appropriately for referral.

  • Provide basic emergence obstetric and neonatal care, adolescent sexual and reproductive health services including the prevention of HIV/AIDS and other STIs.

  • Provide care during labor and puerperium with special emphasis on infection prevention, maternal fatality control and promotion of successful breastfeeding.

  • Participate in Clinician’s ward rounds and provide bedside care for admitted mothers.

  • Institute infection prevention and control in line with MOH protocol in order to ensure healthy deliveries.

  • Conduct deliveries and provide emotional support and encouragement during labor.

  • Support and or ensure that Patients’ blood pressure, temperature, and pulse as well as all diagnostic tests as needed are done.

  • Study patient history and health assessments and monitor the patient’s vital signs and heart rate during birth

  • Perform CPR or other emergency measures if needed and monitor patient postpartum and be available to advise on questions or concerns.

  • Helping patients and their partners to cope with miscarriages, stillbirths, neonatal deaths, and terminations and/or pregnancy related complications where they uncontrollably occur.

  • Postnatal and Prenatal Care.

  • Provide Postnatal care services for mother and baby including immunization, growth monitoring, support for breast feeding and family planning.

  • Participate in Maternal and Perinatal audit surveillance in the health facility.

  • Sensitization and Reproductive Health Needs Response and General Roles.

  • Provide Clinical care for survivors of sexual and gender-based violence.

  • Participate in conducting community sensitizations and other activities related with reproductive health.

  • Prepare daily, weekly and monthly activity reports, HMIS reports and audits related with Reproductive health.

  • Undertake any other roles as may be assigned from time to time.

JOB SUMMARY:

​

The VFAI Nursing role basically calls for the provision of professional and ethical emergency and routine nursing care to patients at the Health Centre or its affiliates on rotational shift schedules. A Nurse at NACMU is a mother to its many children and staff but also cares for patients from the community. They are directly responsible for the day to day management of inpatient therapeutic care (ITC) of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) with medical complication, counselling and dispensing as directed by the Medical Officer or Clinician. The role entails offering handy response in the ART, Immunization, OPD and IPD departments. The Nurse at NAFC has soft care with tender hands ready to be used by God for healing.

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

​

  • Must hold at least a Diploma in Nursing from a recognized institution;

  • Must have at least two (2) years working experience in a hospital or registered health center.

MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specifically, the position calls for the following major roles:

​

  • Triage and Clerking.

  • Receive, make comfortable and respond to patients in the best way possible as soon as they are at the reception.

  • Carry out triage of patients including sorting, temperature taking, screening for acute malnutrition with medical complication etc. at the triage area and assess for appropriate action.

  • Ensure patients details and basic medical/case facts are appropriately and accurately taken.

  • Treatment and Nursing Care.

  • Create an environment of compassion with physical, emotional and other psychological support for both patients and their families.

  • Provide quality nursing care to children and adults in the OPD and/or admitted in the IPD/onward.

  • In liaison with the Clinician /Doctor on duty, administer treatment appropriately and in a timely manner, taking in consideration all standard Nursing and medical care protocol.

  • Dispense according in line with the Doctors/Clinician’s prescription.

  • Provide and monitor 3 hourly/or as may be appropriate from time to time nutrition therapeutic feeds (F100 and F75) to children admitted at the nutrition ward

  • Monitor children and patients’ vital signs and conduct daily medical assessment of all admitted children and patients.

  • Safeguard individuals by maintaining a sanitary environment and following infection-control procedures and pharmaceutical handling safety measures.

  • Record observations, vitals and other pertinent health information to keep an accurate record of patient condition and progress

  • In close liaison with the Doctor/Clinical Officer on duty, Implement and evaluate individual treatment plans for patients.

  • Participate in Doctor’s ward rounds and adjust patient care plans as agreed by the clinician or medical officer.

  • Compile weekly and monthly HMIS reports and submit to the In-charge.

  • Ensure that all required observations, prescribed treatment and procedure are properly carried out and documented in the patients’ cards/files

  • Monitor and supervise proper usage of essential drugs, medical supplies and nutrition therapeutic feeds such as F100, F75 and Prosomal

  • Observe internal VFAI care standards and those set by MOH, DHO and other clinical or medical policies as shall be required from time to time.

  • Operate medical equipment with accuracy and monitor patient condition using standardized methods and techniques

  • Groom, dress, feed, bathe, lift and turn patients when needed

  • Mobilization and Sensitization.

  • Work closely with other health facility staff including VHTs in the targeted areas on community mobilization and promotion of NAFHC Services.

  • Undertake counseling and Nutrition health education at the Nutrition and Antenatal sessions

  • Promote patient well-being by teaching self-care techniques, and involving child care givers and parents’ guardians in developing a plan for effective home care.

  • Undertake any other roles as may be assigned from time to time.

JOB SUMMARY:

​

The Medical Laboratory Technician Role in the Jehovah Rapha Health Centers is a key role as many of the treatment procedures are dependent on it as requisite procedure for informed and conclusive case management. The laboratory Technician is charged with ensuring bio-medical safety in the laboratory, conducting and running accurate laboratory tests, producing, recording and interpreting results in liaison with the Clinicians/Medical Officers as well as storing such results in a secure and confidential manner. S/he also oversees the Laboratory Assistants.

​

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

​

  • Must hold at least a Certificate in Medical Laboratory or Bio-Laboratory Technology but a Diploma is preferable from a recognized institution;

  • Must have at least three (3) years laboratory work experience in a hospital or registered health center.

  • Knowledge of medical laboratory principles, standards, applications and tests.

  • Knowledge of medical laboratory safety, cleanliness and infection control policies and regulations.

  • Knowledge of medical laboratory equipment usage and maintenance.

  • Accuracy – Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.

  • Computer Skills – Proficient ability to use a computer and electronic medical record.

  • Perform diagnostic tests, produce and interpret results making them available for use by the relevant Clinician/Medical Officer.

  • Review and/or study laboratory related policies as required (i.e., annual review) and make recommendations to management for standardised and upbeat laboratory services.

  • Uses knowledge of quality control to review and evaluate test or instrument performance.

  • Uses problem solving skills when assessing test result accuracy and reliability to identify causes for unexpected test results.

  • Performs proficiency testing for selected procedures.

  • Performs phlebotomy on inpatients and/or outpatients, as required.

  • Ensure quality control in collecting specimens, ensure appropriate sampling and maintain accurate records.

  • Calibration, Maintenance and Safety Procedures.

  • Perform preventative maintenance on select laboratory equipment or instruments and suggest changes to maintenance schedules to meet the needs of the laboratory.

  • Set up, maintain, calibrate, clean, and test sterility of medical laboratory equipment.

  • Perform troubleshooting, and with supervision, undertake advanced troubleshooting on select laboratory equipment or instruments.

  • Ensures proper instrument calibration and performance.

  • Promotes culture of safety for patients through proper identification, proper reporting, documentation and prevention of medical errors in a non-punitive environment.

  • Comply with all laboratory policies and regulations related to safety, cleanliness and infection control.

  • Technical Roles.

  • Provide leadership for the testing, interpretation and reporting of results.

  • Review quality control for problem identification and troubleshooting.

  • Use quality control statistics and control procedures such as comparison between methods and results from proficiency testing to identify and or correct performance problems.

  • Serve as the primary technical resource in all matters regarding Bio-laboratory services in VFAI.

  • Evaluate and make recommendations of new technology or process improvements to the Noah’s Ark Family Health Center Team.
