OF OUR

PROJECT

This project is a mission which God has put on Maria Prean's heart in 2016. With the Karamoja project Vision for Africa Intl. is helping the poorest of the poor.

Karamoja is situated in the north-east of Uganda, a half-dry savanna landscape in the bordering region to Kenya and South Sudan, and it is one of the least developed regions of the country. From around 1,3 Million inhabitants 50% is under 15 years old. 80% of the population live below the breadline – a high children death rate, malnutrition and illiteracy are dominant problems of the region.

Due to the drought and the steadily extending soil erosion, agriculture is only possible in a limited form.  Cattle raising is the most common but as well insecure source of income of the half-nomadic population who is additionally threatened by a lot of cattle theft.

Through the shortage of water arouse the issues of malnutrition and poor hygiene conditions. Because of malnutrition the people are weak, they can hardly do any physical work which starts the vicious circle. Most of the children are not attending school and even the elder generations are mostly illiterates. The consumption of alcohol is enormous because it covers up the feeling of hunger, and so it is not rare to see starving children being addicted to alcohol.  The Karamojong are cattle raisers. Their cattle is their pride and the only possession they have. Hunger is still an issue however, because the Karamojong do not slaughter, whereas they only eat dead animals. Many, among them also many children, move around from region to region following the water in order to keep the cattle alive and well. Pregnant women die frequently on their way to the next clinic.

OUR VISION

Making the kingdom of God great in a region which is still dominated by traditional religions, witchcraft and occultism, so that the country becomes free from evil bondages and bad spirits and the people get to know their value in Jesus Christ, become children of the living God and get the new kingdom identity with a life standard full of dignity as God wants it for His children.
